MURFREESBORO, TN - Middle Tennessee State University women's soccer delivered a commanding performance at home on Thursday evening, securing a 3-1 victory over the University of Evansville behind a brace from junior midfielder Hailey Phillips and a signature goal from striker Ania Denham.

The action started immediately. Evansville threatened in the second minute when Taylor Johnson struck the right woodwork. MTSU answered at the 2:31 mark as Hailey Phillips found the back of the net off an assist from Luiza Junior Dos Santos. The Purple Aces responded just over two minutes later when Brooklyn Robinson set up Taylor Johnson to equalizer in the fifth minute.

Despite an intense first half that saw MTSU forward Ania Denham have a penalty kick saved by Evansville goalkeeper Brianna Chirpich, the Blue Raiders maintained offensive pressure, racking up 14 total shots on the night.

"I thought we played really well," said MTSU Head Coach Aston Rhoden. "One of our processes is to find a way to play every game with a certain identity. We talked at halftime about playing to the strengths of our players instead of running too much, and it allowed us to play with a lot more freedom and creativity."

MTSU dominated the second half rhythm. In the 68th minute, Denham lined up a long-range opportunity and buried a strike to give the Blue Raiders a 2-1 lead.

"I've been practicing a lot of my free kicks lately, so I had a lot of confidence," Denham said of her conversion. "It was within shooting distance, so I thought I might as well take it. As a team, we're creating great opportunities in the final third, and I'm glad to finish them."

Phillips capped off the night in the 83rd minute, sinking her second goal of the match off a rebound to seal the 3-1 win. The victory gives MTSU momentum as they head into a three-game road stretch.

MTSU next hits the pitch versus Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN this Sunday at 5 pm.
