Nashville SC stays golden: 2-0 statement over Atlanta United

ATLANTA, GA - Nashville Soccer Club extended its Eastern Conference reign Saturday night, upsetting Atlanta United FC 2-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a performance that felt less like survival and more like authority.

The Boys in Gold struck first through Cristian Espinoza in the 61st minute. Espinoza’s third MLS goal of the season came after an intricate sequence involving Hany Mukhtar and Jeisson Palacios, pushing Nashville ahead at a crucial moment. Then, with Atlanta still searching for an answer, the visitors delivered the final blow during added time when Shak Mohammed scored his first career MLS goal in his first Nashville MLS league appearance—an earned moment assisted by Mukhtar and Espinoza.

Behind the scenes, Brian Schwake quietly kept the spotlight where it belonged: on Nashville’s momentum. The goalkeeper made three saves to preserve the shutout, registering his ninth clean sheet in 14 starts across all competitions this season. It was his fourth MLS shutout this year, and it helped Nashville complete another statement night at the back.

Nashville’s form continues to defy history. With the win, the club sits unbeaten in 13 of its first 14 matches across all competitions, a stretch that includes a 9W-1L-4D MLS record.
