Perfect in September! Fisk Volleyball Dominates Wilberforce in Straight-Set Sweep

NASHVILLE, TN - Fisk University volleyball delivered a commanding performance Sunday, sweeping Wilberforce University 25-7, 25-11, 25-8 in a non-conference matchup that showcased the Lady Bulldogs’ balanced attack and relentless serving. The win makes the Bulldogs perfect for the month of September 10 - 0.

From the opening serve, Fisk set a physical and aggressive tone. Kaia Barnett opened the match with a string of strong serves, and the Lady Bulldogs raced out to a 5-0 lead behind blocks from Laila Esters and Jayla Bond, a kill by Trinity Stevenson, and a service ace. Wilberforce struggled to generate clean attacks, committing early errors that Fisk converted into points.

Shelby Chamblin added a service ace and multiple kills as Fisk stretched the first-set advantage. Reagan Jones and Chennille McClellan contributed timely kills, while Esters continued to find open spaces. Wilberforce managed only seven points in the opening frame, most coming off Fisk errors or isolated kills by Jamika Coleman. Fisk closed the set 25-7 on a kill from Bond.

The second set followed a similar script. Fisk absorbed an early Wilberforce push and then pulled away behind Esters’ consistent production and strong serving from Stevenson, who recorded multiple aces. Jones added a service ace of her own, and McClellan and Chamblin kept the attack balanced. Wilberforce showed brief resistance with kills from Coleman, Mackenzie Anderson and Toni Farris, but Fisk’s defense and serving pressure limited the visitors’ rhythm. A late service run by Barnett, including several aces, helped Fisk seal the set 25-11.

In the third set, Fisk’s serving game reached another level. Barnett and Kacie Miyahira combined for a flurry of aces that put Wilberforce on its heels from the start. Esters and Jones continued to convert side-out opportunities, while McClellan and Bond provided steady contributions at the net. Wilberforce found occasional success through Coleman and Farris, but the Lady Bulldogs’ error-free stretches and aggressive serving proved decisive. Fisk closed out the match 25-8 on an attack error by Wilberforce.

Fisk’s depth and versatility stood out across all three sets. Multiple players recorded kills and the serving unit generated a high volume of aces, disrupting Wilberforce’s passing and limiting the visitors’ offensive options. The Lady Bulldogs controlled the tempo at the net and forced Wilberforce into a high number of attack errors throughout the afternoon.

For Fisk, the straight-set victory provided a strong statement performance and valuable momentum. The balanced scoring and defensive pressure reflected the group’s preparation and execution on both sides of the ball.

Wilberforce faced a tough challenge against a sharp Fisk squad and will look to regroup as its schedule continues. The Lady Bulldogs, meanwhile, will carry the confidence from a dominant home-court display into their next contest versus Tugaloo away in Mississippi next Friday, October 1.
