Sounds Drop Fourth Straight to Redbirds in 9-3 Saturday Night Loss at First Horizon Park

NASHVILLE, TN - The Nashville Sounds’ postseason hopes took another hit Saturday night at First Horizon Park, as the team fell 9-3 to the Memphis Redbirds for its fourth straight loss. The defeat marked Nashville’s eighth series loss of the season and tied the club’s longest losing streak of the year, a run the Sounds had last seen earlier this summer (June 12-16).

The game featured early fireworks and late separation. Nashville struck first when Brandon Lockridge crushed a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the first—his first long ball since July 29 against Charlotte. The Sounds later added runs to build a slim advantage in the middle innings, including a RBI single by Jonathan Ornelas that helped Nashville pull back to a 3-2 score.

Memphis, however, responded with a decisive burst. After Nashville briefly regained momentum with a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth, the Redbirds piled on seven unanswered runs. Memphis chased Sounds pitching and extended the damage with timely offense through the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, including a leadoff home run and additional run production supported by multiple hit clusters.

Ornelas continued to spark Nashville’s lineup, recording his second consecutive multi-hit game. Finishing 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and a run scored, the veteran infielder extended a personal stretch of consistency that has made him one of Nashville’s most reliable bats over the last week.

By the final innings, Akil Baddoo broke up a stretch of Sound batters being retired with a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth. Still, Memphis’ relief held strong, closing the door on a rally.

With the regular season nearing its end, the Sounds now look ahead to Sunday’s finale. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. as Nashville aims to avoid ending the year on a season-long five-game losing streak.
