Sounds Late Rally Falls Short in 5-3 Loss to Gwinnett

NASHVILLE, TN - After rallying for three runs in the late innings and getting the tying run to the plate in the ninth, the Nashville Sounds fell 5-3 to the Gwinnett Stripers on Wednesday night at First Horizon Park.

Nashville was held scoreless through the first six innings, but pushed back with a two-out surge that left the outcome in reach. The Stripers’ pitching shut the door after the Sounds’ late strike, holding on as Gwinnett evened the series.

Brewers top prospects helped shape the offense. Jeferson Quero delivered two hits and crushed his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot that cut the deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh. The Brewers No. 7-rated prospect’s homer came after a small rally began with an earlier Nashville single and walk, giving the Sounds renewed life.

On the mound, right-hander Quinn Priester’s rehab start was cut short in the first inning after 38 pitches, as Gwinnett scored three times. Nashville’s relief corps kept Gwinnett off the board for extended stretches, including clean innings from Blake Holub and additional late work from relievers in the middle frames.

Cooper Pratt also extended his streak, maintaining a 17-game on-base run, while the Sounds’ final bid against Jacob Waguespack ultimately fell one step short.
