Sounds Suffer 14-1 Setback vs. Redbirds Despite the Man in (Tyler) Black's Three-Hit Night

Thursday night at First Horizon Park was a tough one for the Nashville Sounds, as they fell to the Memphis Redbirds 14-1, dropping their second straight game in the series. The defeat was the largest loss of the season for Nashville, as Memphis powered through 20 Sound hits allowed for the second time this year. Over the last two matchups, the Redbirds have outscored the Sounds 25-2, including an eight-run top of the sixth that all but flipped the game on its head.

Despite the lopsided score, Nashville did get a standout performance from Tyler Black. The slugger delivered his third three-hit game of the year, finishing 3-for-3 with a double and the Sounds’ lone RBI of the night. On the mound, left-hander Tate Kuehner got Nashville off to a good start, working 4.0 innings and allowing just one run on five hits.

Things quickly unraveled, though, as Memphis struck for three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Later, the Redbirds again took control in the sixth, loading the bases and sending 13 batters to the plate in the inning—eventually plating six straight runs to expand the advantage.

Nashville’s final three innings were handled by position players Daniel Guilarte and Ethan Murray. Guilarte allowed a pair of runs, including a two-run homer just two batters into his second career pitching appearance, while Murray tossed a perfect 1-2-3 ninth.

For Memphis, Six Redbirds collected multi-hit games, led by Grayson Tarlow, who went 4-for-5 with four singles and helped deliver several key rallies. Left-hander Mason Molina earned the win after allowing only the single Nashville run across 5.0 innings.

The Sounds and Redbirds will continue their series on Friday night at First Horizon Park, with first pitch set for 6:35 pm.
