Trevecca Men’s Soccer Secures Best Start in Program History with 1-1 Draw at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, AL - The Trevecca Nazarene University men’s soccer team opened Gulf South Conference play on Saturday night by extending its historic unbeaten streak, battling the University of Montevallo to a 1-1 draw at Varsity Soccer Field.

With the result, Trevecca (4-0-1, 0-0-1 GSC) remains unbeaten through its first five matches of a season for the first time in program history. The Trojans previously matched their best four-game start set by the 2006 squad, but Saturday's road draw officially pushed the 2026 team into unchartered territory. The match also marked Trevecca’s first positive result against Montevallo in four all-time meetings.

Montevallo (0-2-2, 0-0-1 GSC) drew first blood in the 22nd minute when Joaquin Wladdimiro slotted home his second goal of the season at 21:40. The Falcons carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime after holding a 5-0 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes.

Trevecca responded quickly after the break. In the 54th minute, Haden Brown helped orchestrate an attack and found Chris Douglas, who finished at 53:52 to pull the Trojans level at 1-1.

The equalizer marked Douglas' fifth goal in five matches this season, matching his entire scoring output from the 2025 campaign. The junior forward has now found the net in four of Trevecca’s five contests this fall. Brown picked up his second assist of the year on the play.

Neither team could break the deadknot over the final 36 minutes. Montevallo outshot Trevecca 11-6 overall and held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks, but Trojan goalkeeper Hunter Walker anchored the defense with three saves to preserve the point on the road.

Trevecca has outscored opponents 11-3 through five matches while earning three clean sheets.

The Trojans continue their road swing on Wednesday, Sept. 16, traveling to Huntsville, Alabama, for a clash against the University of Alabama in Huntsville (4-0-0, 1-0-0 GSC) at 7:30 p.m. at Charger Park.
