TREVECCA MEN'S BASKETBALL: Trojans Secure Sixth GSC Win by Securing the Ball; Down CBU 89-76
NASHVILLE, TN – The Trevecca Nazarene University men’s basketball team demonstrated their prowess by defeating Christian Brothers University (CBU) 89-76 at the Trojan Fieldhouse, marking their fourth victory in the last five games. With this win, Trevecca improved their record to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in the Gulf South Conference (GSC).
How It Happened
The Trojans opened strong with a 7-0 run and maintained momentum throughout the game. Though CBU closed the gap to one point at 9:12 in the first half, Trevecca quickly responded with a 9-0 run, extending their lead to 30-20 by the half. The Trojans capitalized on their free throw opportunities, shooting 89.5% (17 of 19) from the line in the first half, leading 47-31 at the break.
The second half saw Trevecca maintain control and open big leads over periods of the half, one that stretched their lead to 21 points. Despite CBU's efforts to narrow the margin, Trevecca's ball security was key; they committed only two turnovers, the fewest in over two decades.
The Players
Leading the Trojan offense were Jax Abernathy and Brett Wright, each scoring 23 points. Jeremy Jackson, Jr. contributed a solid 14 points and recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds. Fred Bailey led the team with five assists, showcasing a well-rounded performance.

NASHVILLE, TN – The Trevecca Nazarene Women’s Basketball team secured a convincing 67-48 win over the Christian Brothers Lady Bucs, improving to 9-6 overall and 6-4 in GSC play. This victory marked Trevecca's third win in their last four games.
The Match
The game began tightly contested, but Trevecca broke away with an 11-2 run to close the first quarter. CBU fought back in the second quarter but could not overcome the Trojans’ previous lead. Trevecca managed to outscore the Bucs in the low-scoring third quarter as well, leading 46-36 heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter was decisive, with the Trojans outbursting CBU, posting 21 points while limiting their opponents to just four field goals.
The Team
Reliance on defense proved pivotal; the Trojans forced 13 turnovers, scoring 24 points off those mistakes. Shinae Howard Johnson led Trevecca with a season-high 16 points, supported by Jordan Gillies with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Cheyenne Trotter narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
