Trojan Surge: Trevecca Outlasts Mississippi Christian 3-1 to Build Postseason Momentum
NASHVILLE, TN - On a high-octane Homecoming weekend inside Trojan Trojan Hall, the Trevecca Nazarene University women’s volleyball team powered through physical wear and tear to secure a crucial 3-1 conference victory over Mississippi Christian University. The win provided a massive boost to Trevecca’s conference tournament seeding as the regular season reaches its final stretch.
The Trojans opened strong with a gritty 25-23 win in set one before dropping the second set 25-18 to the visiting Lady Choctaws. Refusing to yield home-court advantage, Trevecca reasserted dominance in set three, cruising to a commanding 25-13 victory, before locking down the match with a decisive 25-18 performance in set four.
Katilyn Grant provided a relentless presence at the net throughout the evening, sparking key scoring runs alongside junior outside hitter Isabella Sherrod, while sophomore setter Brynne Krangnes deftly directed the offense. Defensive efforts by Lily Vanbebber, Kayla Bullard, and Charlee Young repeatedly blunted Mississippi Christian’s attack, allowing Trevecca to pull away in critical set rallies.
Pushing Through Late-Season Fatigue
With the regular season winding down, head coach Emily Moore praised her team's resilience under demanding conditions.
"Yeah, it's a big win for us, with conference tournament seeding implications," Coach Moore stated. "Coming down to the end of the season, bodies are wearing out and fatigue is setting in, so to be able to push through and get a big win like this—building some momentum going into the conference tournament—feels really good."
Moore noted that operating with a shorter roster has required core rotation players to carry heavy physical loads late into November.
"They're tough, though, and they're making attacks," Moore said. "We have a wonderful athletic trainer who gives them great treatment, and I think we are in as good a shape as we can possibly be given we're in mid-November volleyball. ... I think one of the areas of growth I was looking for earlier in the season was leadership on and off the court, just developing an identity for this team. I'm so proud of the growth that we have shown."
Players Step Up Under Pressure
For junior outside hitter Isabella Sherrod, defending home court on Homecoming week added extra motivation.
"I think tonight was just so awesome. I love playing with these girls, and it was just so exciting to get another win—especially at home since it's our last weekend and it's Homecoming week," Sherrod said. "We're on a roll right now with great momentum. Our bodies are feeling pretty good as of right now, hopefully to withstand the test of time."
Sophomore setter Brynne Krangnes, who joined the program this season and quickly stepped into a leading role running the Trojan offense, emphasized the squad's collective grit.
"Tonight was a great win, and we really had to battle and scrap through," Krangnes explained. "It's the end of the season,so I feel like it's really just who can scrap more, who can control the ball, and who can make fewer errors. I've definitely developed as a leader a ton.
Being put into a big role in my first year with this team, I had to learn personal relationships and run a new offense. Adrenaline in the game helps you push past the physical pain."
Trevecca turns right back around to complete its regular-season slate with another high-stakes home matchup against the University of West Alabama.
