NASHVILLE, TN – The Trevecca Nazarene University (TNU) Trojans baseball team is celebrating a monumental program milestone after a hard-fought doubleheader sweep against Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) on Friday, February 13th, at Jackson Field and a resounding win today to sweep the series. The victories not only pushed the Trojans to a perfect 3-0 start in Gulf South Conference (GSC) play but also secured the 1,500th win in the program's history.
The Trojans currently stand at 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the GSC, riding a four-game winning streak heading into today’s scheduled contest against the Warhawks.
A Historic Marathon Victory
Game one of Friday’s doubleheader was a classic for the record books, as the Trojans erased a four-run deficit to defeat AUM in a grueling 13 innings. The final score was 8-7, marking the historic 1,500th win.
TNU initially fell behind after AUM put up multi-run innings in the fourth and sixth, leading to a 5-1 Warhawk advantage. However, the Trojans chipped away, tying the game in the bottom of the ninth when Jacob Lester launched his first home run of the 2026 season—a towering blast that knotted the score at 7-7 and forced extra innings.
The marathon continued scoreless through the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth innings before AUM surged ahead with a solo home run in the top of the 13th. Trevecca responded immediately in the bottom half, loading the bases with one out. A series of productive outs—a groundout by Noah Boughton driving in the tying run, followed by being hit by pitches to Tyler Jenkins and Jaxson Christ—forced in the winning run for the 8-7 victory.
The Trojans followed this dramatic performance by taking the series with a decisive 7-2 win in game two. Game two saw Jacob Lester continue his hot streak with a two-run homer in the first inning, igniting an offense that put up six runs by the third inning. Senior right-hander Spencer Wilkins was brilliant on the mound, earning a complete-game victory, allowing only two runs on four hits while striking out seven over seven innings on just 88 pitches.
Season So Far and Current Standing
The Trojans began the 2026 season on the road against Georgia Southwestern State University, where they dropped the first two games under adverse, cold conditions. They salvaged the series finale with an extra-innings victory on Sunday, February 1st. After returning home, they split a series with Kentucky Wesleyan College, which included a massive 19-0 win .
Trojans have now won five straight games and including today’s 8 - 2 win.
A Legacy of Excellence
The 1,500th program win places Trevecca in elite company within the GSC. The Trojans are now the fourth GSC program to reach this threshold, joining Delta State, Union, and Valdosta State. The program has accumulated 393 wins in the NCAA Division II Era.
Trevecca’s baseball history, which began in 1971 under founder and Hall of Famer Bill Green, is marked by significant achievements. The program reached its pinnacle in the NCAA era in 2021 when, under Coach Chase Sain, the Trojans won the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship and advanced to the Division II College World Series in Cary, North Carolina, for the first time ever. Coach Sain, who took over in 2021, recently surpassed Coach Green on the program's all-time wins list.
