Trojans Stay Perfect: Douglas Brace Powers Trevecca to 3-0 Win Over Johnson, 4-0 Start Rolls On

NASHVILLE, TN - Under sweltering early-season heat, Trevecca Nazarene men’s soccer continued its blistering start to 2026, blanking Johnson University (TN) 3-0 on Tuesday evening at the Trevecca Soccer Complex to improve to 4-0 overall.

Chris Douglas scored twice and Daniel Shiel added a first-half penalty as the Trojans dominated from start to finish, collecting their third clean sheet in four matches. Goalkeeper Hunter Walker was rarely tested but remained solid when called upon, helping the side preserve another shutout.

Douglas opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing a well-worked move involving Levi Jones and Judah Jones. Shiel doubled the advantage from the spot just before the break in the 40th minute. Douglas then sealed the result in the 65th minute with his second of the night, this time assisted by Connor Woulfe.

The result caps a perfect non-conference run for Head Coach Danny Leavy’s side, which was picked eighth in the Gulf South Conference preseason coaches’ poll. Next up is the GSC opener Saturday at Montevallo.

Leavy, in his 18th season at Trevecca, expressed strong optimism about the group’s foundation.

“I mean, that put us 4-0, so that’s always encouraging starting off your out-of-conference schedule without losing and three out of the four clean sheets,” Leavy said. “We’ve got the players that we need in the positions that we want. We’re really well balanced right now. We’re healthy, which is encouraging. So yeah, I’m really optimistic.”

He pointed to the team’s pace and Walker’s form as particular strengths while noting the squad still has room to grow.

“I can tell that the group is going to get better still… This is one of the more balanced groups I’ve had in several years,” Leavy added. “Our pace is quite good. We’ve got a lot of pace that we can put on the field. And then we’ve got Hunter. Our goalkeeper is in really good form right now.”

Senior midfielder Jack Franklin echoed the coach’s confidence heading into conference play. “It’s a great feeling. Starting off 4-0 was always a big motivation going into conference,” Franklin said. “We’re super confident… hopefully the other GSC teams are looking at the results. We can really put a name out there this year.”

With a healthy, balanced roster featuring the Jones brothers (Judah, Levi and freshman Zion) and a proven goalkeeper, Trevecca enters GSC action riding serious momentum.
