Trojans Weather the Heat: Trevecca Women’s Soccer Bends, Doesn't Break in 1-0 Shutout of UIS

NASHVILLE, TN - Under a scorching late-summer sun in Music City, the Trevecca Nazarene University women’s soccer team showcased relentless defensive tenacity to secure a 1-0 victory over the University of Illinois-Springfield on Sunday afternoon.

Despite being heavily out-shot 18-6 by the visiting Prairie Stars, the Trojans capitalized when it mattered most to close out opening weekend with an undefeated 1-0-1 record.

UIS (1-1) dictated tempo early, unleashing the match's first four shots. Trevecca found its footing in the 13th minute when senior Anna Farrell struck the left post before having a second strike turned away by UIS goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich.

The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute on a decisive counter-attack. Evvy Hainline delivered a precise long ball into open space, finding Kylie Bradshaw unit-on-unit with Yurevich. Bradshaw calmly chipped the ball over the keeper and into the top of the net, marking Trevecca's first lead of the 2026 season.

The victory did not come without adversity. Late in the first half, starting goalkeeper Penelope Charroin collided with an attacking UIS player during a battle in the box and was forced to exit. Backup goalkeeper Mary Bauchou stepped into the net for the remaining 47 minutes.

UIS turned up the pressure down the stretch, out-shooting the Trojans 7-1 in the final half-hour. However, Trevecca's backline kept the Prairie Stars mostly to the perimeter. With just 86 seconds remaining, Bauchou produced a brilliant diving save to her left on an Addi Wittenberg strike, freezing the 1-0 clean sheet. Charroin (2 saves) and Bauchou (3 saves) combined for the shutout.

Trevecca now embarks on a four-game road trip beginning Thursday, September 3, against Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
