NASHVILLE, TN - The Nashville Predators returned to form with a thrilling 6-3 victory against the Boston Bruins at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday night. Matthew Wood shined as he scored two goals, while Filip Forsberg contributed a goal and two assists, leading the Predators to their first win after a three-game slump.
The game started with Nicolas Hague giving Nashville a 1-0 lead when he blasted a shot past Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo at 13:53 of the first period. Wood, who has been a recent acquisition for the Predators, capitalized on a short-handed opportunity just after rejoining the ice, doubling Nashville's lead with a slick one-timer at 1:24 of the second period.
Despite a power-play goal from Boston's Morgan Geekie that cut the score to 2-1, the Predators quickly responded. Erik Haula redirected a shot to restore a two-goal cushion before Forsberg’s wrist shot from the top of the slot extended the lead to 4-1. Wood capped off a dominant second period with a tip-in, making it 5-1.
Nashville’s performance was a testament to its resilience amidst roster changes, as four players had recently been traded. Coach Andrew Brunette praised the synergy amongst the veterans and the newcomers. "Our team is pretty battle-tested," he said. "Tonight, our young kids brought some energy. I’m proud of the group.”
The third period saw the Bruins mount a response, with Charlie McAvoy scoring to make it 5-2, and Viktor Arvidsson adding another goal. But Luke Evangelista sealed the victory with an empty-netter, ensuring a confident Predators win.
With the NHL Trade Deadline looming, the Predators have experienced emotional upheaval, trading key players like Michael Bunting to the Dallas Stars. Yet, this victory showcased the depth of talent in the organization, with young players stepping up when needed most. As they prepare to face the Buffalo Sabres next, the Predators aim to maintain their momentum in the playoff chase.
