Elsa Bengtsson’s 82nd-minute strike completes a thrilling second-half comeback in Nashville as the Trojans secure a hard-fought point to punch their ticket to the GSC Tournament.

Late Drama Secures Postseason Berth for Trojans

NASHVILLE, TN - Sophomore forward Elsa Bengtsson delivered the decisive blow in the 82nd minute to rescue a 1-1 draw for Trevecca Nazarene University against the University of West Alabama on Friday afternoon at Trojan Soccer Complex. The dramatic comeback point officially clinched a spot for the Trojans in the upcoming Gulf South Conference (GSC) Championship tournament.

The visiting Tigers stunned Trevecca early in the match, striking first in the 10th minute. Midfielder Sofia Jimenez Perez finished a accurate feed from Allie Kimbrell, slotting the ball past Trojan goalkeeper Penelope Charroin to put West Alabama up 1-0.

Refusing to let their postseason dreams slip away, Trevecca immediately answered with relentless offensive pressure. The Trojans created a wave of scoring opportunities throughout the opening half, bombarding the Tigers' backline and forcing West Alabama goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez into heavy action. Hernandez delivered a heroic performance in net, making 12 total saves to keep the Trojans off the board for over 80 minutes. Trevecca came inches from equalizing in the 28th minute when Anna Farrell rattled a shot off the top woodwork.

As time wound down in the second half, Trevecca turned up the heat. In the 82nd minute, Kylie Bradshaw picked up possession on the wing and sent a precise pass across the box. Bengtsson controlled the ball and beat Hernandez into the bottom corner to level the score at 1-1, triggering dynamic celebrations on the Trojan sideline.

Charroin anchored Trevecca's defense in the closing minutes, finishing with four saves on the afternoon.Despite late pushes from both sides, neither team could break the stalemate before the final whistle.

With the draw, Trevecca (6-5-4, 3-4-3 GSC) secures the crucial point needed to clinch their ticket to the GSC Championship tournament, overcoming last season's heartbreak to extend their postseason run.
