A packed home crowd, relentless high-pressure attack, and a seven-game win streak propel the Trojans to their historic first GSC championship and top tournament seed.

NASHVILLE, TN - Under the lights at the Trevecca Soccer Complex, energy surged through a rowdy home crowd of over 300 passionate fans. Spectators spilled over onto the surrounding hill and lined the chain-link perimeter fence to witness two of the conference’s most in-form squads square off. The atmosphere proved electric, providing the perfect backdrop as Trevecca Nazarene’s men’s soccer team delivered a gutsy 2-1 victory over the visiting University of West Alabama to capture the Gulf South Conference regular season championship.

From the opening whistle, both teams brought intense physicality. Trevecca broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Judah Jones found the back of the net to put the Trojans ahead 1-0. Coming out of halftime, Trevecca quickly doubled its advantage in the 52nd minute behind a strike from forward Chris Douglas, assisted by Jack Franklin.

West Alabama pulled one back in the 81st minute with a goal by Aidan Riley, setting up a frantic final ten minutes. However, Trevecca’s formidable backline and clutch netminding held firm to secure the 2-1 result.

"We knew going into the game it was going to be hard-fought from minute one," Douglas said after the match."Once we got one goal, we knew the whole game would open up. They came back late, but we always felt in control. In my three years here, this is the most well-knit team we’ve had. The vibes in the camp are amazing."

Trevecca’s high-octane tactical style was on full display throughout the night, characterized by continuous attacking pressure and wide crosses across the pitch. Head Coach Danny Leavy emphasized that aggression is central to the team’s identity.

"We want to keep teams under pressure because we’ve got so much pace," Leavy explained. "I would much rather attack than defend."

Leavy was visibly moved following the match, expressing deep pride in his roster’s development and belief as they celebrated their historic GSC title. "It's pretty remarkable. Watching them believe in themselves and grow in that confidence has been the most rewarding part," Leavy shared, adding that every player from top to bottom has contributed to their championship campaign. "Honestly, I feel like I could list all 24 guys on the roster this year. I'm just so grateful that I got to stand on the sideline and watch them win."

Between the posts, goalkeeper Hunter Walker delivered key saves when called upon, crediting the defensive unit in front of him for keeping West Alabama at bay. Inspired by family members who brought a handmade poster bearing the team slogan "Why Not Us?", Walker praised the home support and team chemistry.

"I love being back there, but credit to my backline—they make my job so much easier," Walker said. "There are absolutely no holes in this team. With this momentum, I don’t think there is a team that can beat us right now."

The victory marks Trevecca’s seventh consecutive win—a scorching streak that stands out as one of the most dominant runs across NCAA Division II men's soccer this season. With an enviable 12-1-2 record, a GSC Regular Season Championship trophy, and an unshakeable belief, the No. 13 ranked Trojans march into the conference tournament as the top seed firing on all cylinders.
